From an Older Woman to a Younger One

This is such a good list! I want to cut it out and save it for my stepdaughter and future daughter. Heck I want to cut it out for my twenties self! Every young woman deserves to know that she is more beautiful and has so much more potential than she sees in herself.

Thank you for posting such a beautiful blog and for sharing your amazing pictures. Women often forget just how beautiful they really are, on the inside and on the outside. You're especially right about number 10 :)

This is also like a letter from the "present" you to the "younger" you. Very cool. Don't you really wish that you could go back in time and tell the younger you what knowlege you've cultivated through the years. I do:-)

How wonderful!

I'm gonna keep this list! :) And I never thought you were 52. Number 4 is indeed true. :D

This is beautiful Patricia..thanks for sending it to me. It is now on my favorites.

Thanks, prairieplains. Why didn't we know these things then, eh? How are things going by the way? I hope you're feeling well....

Thank you. You are so inspiring!
(Sigh) I remember worrying about things like 'fat thighs,' etc., when I could have been thinking of other things...Thank you so much for stopping by.

I do, too. But what I really miss every once in a while, is the carefree days before we became girls, if you know what I mean. Before he whole boy-girl thing started. Climbing trees, wearing silly hats and bows. Those days were fun!

Thank you for stopping by!
Thank you very much. I try to remember number four, especially. : )
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks very much for marking it, too.
That was a very sweet thing to say and I'm very glad you enjoyed the post.
I see that. Thank you. I'm very glad you liked it, Marie.

Forwarding this to Daughter right now (well, right now after I have posted this comment!) She already does the sunscreen thing, which she worked out for herself, so there is hope she will take the rest to heart too. Although, one thing I do remember from my own 21-year-old self is that 21-year-old selves already think they know it all! Or was that just me?

Great post, Patricia. Truly wonderful.

Thank you. This is something that deserves to be framed and hung up on my bedroom wall. Big hugs.

These were wonderful!!
This is really incredible advice. Especially the "you're pretty" part. I can remember my grandma saying she was always more homely than pretty, and finding a picture of her on her twenty-third birthday. I was thinking, "she is a movie star", and my mom said, "I never noticed how like her you are."

That was an "ah-hah!" moment for me, because I'd always been told I was cute but not very pretty. It's amazing what we put ourselves through when we're young!

What an amazing post and such sound advice to women of all ages!
Good, good. Baby is kicking a lot now, and I feel her all the time! Alexa's mom got served yesterday too, so now our custody petition actually seems real. Busy, busy times :)

This made my nose hurt - which usually means I'm about to cry.. but I didn't, just big smiles and deep breaths instead. A superb post!

Patricia:

As usual, brilliantly written. I have appended my meager comments:

1.) Absolutely true. Codicil: When you don't believe a man who loves you when he tells you how beautiful you are, he feels diminished.

2.) If you believe in a higher power who loves and supports you, the period of time during which you have to fake it is shortened.

3.) Fear of failure is more corrosive than failure. Failure is not a negative self-judgement.

4). You have just described my late grandmother Geneva. Even when she got Alzheimer's, she woke up happy every day. Remembering to have the wonder of a little boy, for me, makes me a better father and friend.

5). I have nothing to add here.

6.) As a financial professional, I come across this from time to time. I would add a codicil: Women process financial information differently than men. It is my experience that women will ask me more questions before feeling comfortable. When looking for a financial advisor, make sure the person you choose respects what you need to feel comfortable.

7.) I went the alcohol way earlier in life. It just put off the work I needed to do in order to love, respect, and trust myself. I couldn't agree more with this point.

8.) Perfectly true.

9.) I would add, about accoutrements (tatoos, enhancements, etc.): Consider what they will look like at age 50.

10). I can personally vouch for that last sentence.

This is an AMAZING post! I have been a bit reflective lately (my birthday is coming soon) This should be printed off and put up in every girls dorm room! These are such powerful things to live by. Thank you!
Really? So we share a birthday month, too? Well, happy birthday!
